While most hosting companies will guarantee a very high uptime percentage, even the best hosts will occasionally go down. Combined with this is the fact that WordPress site can also go down for its own reasons, and you encounter situations where your website could easily be offline for a couple of hours.
If you aren’t monitoring the site yourself on a continual basis, which is somewhat impractical, then a service that can alert you when your site goes down can come in really handy. Fortunately one of the more popular WordPress plugins, Jetpack, includes a feature that lets it monitor your site’s downtime.
How to Have Jetpack Monitor Your WordPress Site for Downtime
The steps in this article were performed on a self-hosted WordPress site with the Jetpack plugin installed and activated. Note that this feature is available with the free version of the Jetpack plugin.
Step 1: Navigate to your site’s administrative dashboard at yourwebsite.com/wp-admin.
Step 2: Hover over the Jetpack tab at the left side of the window, then choose the Settings option.
Step 3: Select the Security tab at the top of the window.
Step 4: Click the button to the left of Monitor your site’s downtime to turn it on. I have enabled downtime monitoring in the image below.
